I'm a dining room table and I vote!
These nutjobs are making it clear why it's so easy for corporate hucksters to recruit them. That sort of blind, ignorant rage is a disease in and of itself.
John, off topic, could you address the likely outcome of the newly paved Spring St? Will we finally achieve one single bike lane?
The "miraculous marketplace" does quite well on its own behalf, it does not need cheerleaders from outside its ranks.
The mystery for me is, what is the cheerleaders' motivation?
Gina:
I'm always a bit reluctant to pass on what I've been told, because it often seems to be a moving target. But it's my understanding that the "temporary" two lane layout of Spring Street has met with some approval from the public and city officialdom.
I think in order to make that more permanent some type of curb extensions could be installed. The extensions could be laid out with an opening in the curb extension which would allow bikes to roll through the curb at street level. These extensions would funnel traffic into the two lane flow leaving parking lanes on both sides.
Along the outer edge of the parking lanes there appears to be enough space to designate a bike lane, probably just one side.
That is under discussion.
thanks John, I understand you're one of many with the "know" on this. I'm heartened to hear the bike lane is even under active consideration. I feel it's a change, like replacing the hardwood canopy, that's cheap and has big value. Naturally there will be costs associated with the curb thingies et al., but remember who spent a cool million this year for a party tent on the river.
"but remember who spent a cool million this year for a party tent on the river."
How could we forget that?
Gina and John,
Thursday at around 6:30 we are attempting to gather a group and ride to the city council meeting from bank street brewhouse. At this time I am not sure how many there will be but the more the merrier.
Thanks,
matt
Matt - is the ride in support of bike lanes?
Yes Gina the bike ride will be to show support for bike lanes on spring and any future paved street.
Check out my Friday tribune column tomorrow it talks about it.
Sorry John I wish I knew that you were in favor before my deadline I would have mentioned that.
Looking forward to the multi-part "Which side are you on? New Albany" series coming soon.
Right?
